Choosing a babysitter is a sensitive matter. You're entrusting your most precious person – your child. What matters most is finding someone you can truly trust.
1 What to look for in a profile and at first contact
- Experience with children – what ages, for how long
- References – ideally verifiable ones from previous families
- Communication style – clear, friendly, specific
- Attitude towards safety and first aid
Ask for a reference. A good babysitter will provide one without hesitation.
2 First meeting
Plan the first meeting with your child present. Your child's natural reaction will tell you more than any CV.
- Let your child react naturally – don't force the interaction
- Observe how the babysitter engages with the child – naturally or artificially?
- Notice the overall atmosphere – do both you and your child feel comfortable?
3 Red flags
- Nervousness or reluctance to answer direct questions
- Vague answers about previous experience
- No interest in the child – focus only on working conditions
- Unable to provide a verifiable reference
4 How to begin the arrangement
Even if you have a good feeling, we recommend proceeding carefully.
- Start with a short session (1–2 hours) with you present
- Then a short session without you in a safe environment
- Gradually extend the time and build trust
Trust is built gradually. Don't rush – children and babysitters both need time to adapt.
